Should I file my own tax return?

Preparing and filing your income tax return can be economical; however, it may prove to be a costly option in the long run. Many people have filed their returns by themselves or with the help of a friend only to find that they have made a mistake. They end up getting a letter from the Cyprus Tax Department stating they missed something or filed incorrectly, ultimately costing them more time and money than if they had just had a professional complete their return from the beginning.

Gone are the days when filing your income tax was simple. Today's tax laws are so complicated that filing a relatively simple return can be confusing. It is just too easy to overlook deductions or allowance to which you are entitled or the online tax system is preventing you from submitting your return because of an error.

If you have a simple return, it may make sense that you complete it by yourself and just have a professional run through it. If, on the other hand, you have an investment or rental income, specific deductions and allowances or a small business, it will be more beneficial to have a tax professional complete and file your return.

Personal income tax return preparation and filing starts as low as €50. Applicable for employee with an annual income below €50,000, no rental or investment income, standard allowances and deduction. Other restrictions apply.
